Hobbs PE invests in water jet cutting – the cost-effective alternative to laser cutting
As Hobbs Precision Engineering develops its workshop space – as well as its ever-growing customer base – it has introduced an impressive new large-scale water jet cutter (3m x 2m).
“This equipment gives us incredible flexibility,” comments Gavin Wheeler, Group Sales Manager at Hobbs PE. “The water jet simplifies the cutting of a wide range of materials at all kinds of thicknesses, offering a far more cost-effective approach to precision engineering than laser cutting.”
The setup allows for high accuracies and an edge-finishing system – that gives a burr-free finish – often removing the need for secondary cutting. It allows the process from technical drawing to finished cut to take place in short order, and as it’s a cold process it reduces the likelihood of over-heating (so risks like material hardening or stresses are therefore eradicated).
The water jet equipment joins our workshop’s DMG Mori DMU75 5-axis vertical milling machine (which offers 5-axis simultaneous machining, highly dynamic high-speed milling with spindle speeds up to 20,000 rpm, cutting with torques up to 86Nm). With the new monoBLOCK machines, every component produced becomes an impressive masterpiece.
